Roger’s extensive experience extends beyond the traditional norms, as he possesses a keen understanding of the unique challenges that the property services sector presents. 1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My career journey began humbly, working part time as a cleaner while in university. Over the years, I progressed through various roles, eventually reaching the the position of General Manager at Glad Group.

Navigating a demanding professional landscape, I prioritize achieving work-life balance. This involves dedicating quality time to my family while maintaining the flexibility required to fulfill work commitments effectively.

2. As the Operations Manager at Glad Group Services, what are your primary responsibilities in overseeing the company’s operations?

My primary responsibilities involve overseeing the daily operations. This includes managing teams in all states including New Zealand operations, coordinating tasks, implementing strategies to enhance overall efficiency, monitoring key performance indicators, making data-driven decisions to optimise operations to improve overall customer satisfaction further.

3. What inspired you to pursue a career in facility management and operations?

Indeed, it is a dynamic and fulfilling role. I was inspired to pursue this career path because I have always been drawn to the diverse challenges that facility management and operations present.  

The opportunity to engage in problem-solving, team management, and process optimization has always excited me. Additionally, the satisfaction of creating well-functioning environments that positively impact people’s lives and businesses has been a driving force behind my career choice.

4. Glad Group Services is known for its commitment to sustainability. How do you ensure sustainability practices are integrated into your daily operations?

At Glad Group Services, sustainability is a core value that permeates all aspects of our operations. We priorities environmentally friendly practices such as energy conservation, waste reduction, and the use of eco-friendly products. Our continuous employee education programs focus on sustainable practices, and we collaborate with like– minded suppliers and partners to ensure a holistic approach to eco– friendly operations.

5. With the continuous advancements in technology, how do you see the role of operations management evolving in the coming years?

In the coming years, I believe operations management will become increasingly data driven. Utilizing and optimizing current technology will enable us to make informed decisions, predict maintenance needs, and streamline processes for greater efficiency and productivity. Moreover, embracing emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and IoT devices will allow us to automate routine tasks and focus more on strategic planning and innovative solutions.

6. In your experience, what are the key factors that contribute to a successful and productive team?

Building a successful and productive team requires several key factors. Effective communication is vital, as it fosters collaboration and trust among team members. Recognizing and appreciating their contributions boosts morale and encourages their dedication.  

Additionally, providing opportunities for skill development and growth helps team members continually improve and excel in their roles. We support our people and help them grow with us through training programs and mentorship.

7. Safety is undoubtedly a critical aspect of your operations. How does Glad Group Services prioritize safety in the workplace, and what measures are taken to ensure a safe environment?

Safety is our utmost priority at Glad Group Services. We have comprehensive safety protocols and training programs in place to educate our employees about potential risks and preventive measures. Regular audits and inspections are conducted to maintain compliance, and we are proud recipients of [currently operating one of our major sites without any LTI for over consecutive 1684 days that highlights our commitment to ensuring a safe environment for both employees and customers.

8. What have been the most significant challenges you’ve faced as Operations Manager, and how did you overcome them?

One of the most significant challenges was managing a sudden surge in customer demand without compromising service quality. To overcome this, we conducted a thorough analysis of our processes, streamlined workflows, and restructured teams to allocate resources more effectively. Open communication and collaboration with the team played a crucial role in successfully meeting the challenge head-on. Implementing agile methodologies and proactive resource planning helped us adapt swiftly and maintain our commitment to exceptional service even during demanding periods.
