Statement from Glad Group

On behalf of everyone at Glad Group, we would like to extend our sincere, heartfelt sympathies to the families of the six individuals who lost their lives in the horrific events at Westfield Bondi Junction on 13 April 2024.

We recognise and thank those families, for the compassion they have shown for each other, and respect they have shown for all those who gave testimony, including our Glad team members. We also recognise those who were injured during the attack, for their dignity and kindness as they move on with their lives. We hope the inquest has brought some peace.

On a day of unimaginable tragedy, our people did their best. What they dealt with was completely unexpected and unprecedented in Australia. It was also harrowing for them, as they supported the police and first responders. They continue to carry the weight of the memories.

Everyone at Glad remains deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and friend, Faraz Tahir. On his first shift at this centre, Faraz was bravely attempting to protect others when he lost his life.

We send our love as well to Muhammad Taha, who was seriously injured as he also bravely confronted the situation alongside Faraz. We stand by him and his family, offering our full support as he continues his recovery. We are pleased they both received the Australian Security Medal of Valour.

Glad respects the work of the Coroner and this inquest. We have just received her findings will now take time to review them carefully.

The impact of this tragedy goes far beyond today and this inquest. It has already led to changes in training, equipment and processes at Glad, and we hope for the rest of our industry. We hope also it has created a wider understanding of the role of security, and the commitment of those who do the job. But more than anything else, it has reminded of the profound losses of the victims families and the grief they continue to endure.  You will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
