Glad Group operates in industries, such as cleaning and security, that have a higher risk of labour rights violations and the potential for modern slavery. These typically attracts more vulnerable people such as migrant workers who might have cultural and language barriers and have limited knowledge of Australian workplace laws and standards.
What are we doing to mitigate the risk?
At Glad Group, we have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, and we’re committed to consistently reviewing and strengthening our processes and systems to minimise the risk of human rights infringements anywhere in our own operations and supply chain.
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made this year, including
- Achieving Cleaning Accountability Framework (CAF) Prequalification
- Partnering with our customers to achieve the CAF 3 Star Standard at four assets including EastCo and Eastland in VIC and Westpoint and Castle Towers in NSW
- Receiving an EcoVadis Silver Medal, up from Bronze in 2023 in recognition of our environmental, labour and human rights performance, placing Glad Group in the top 25% of companies assessed
We know that the risk of modern slavery is higher in our supply chain than our own operations as we directly employ our cleaning, security, maintenance and concierge teams. To mitigate this risk, we expect all our suppliers to adhere to our Supplier Code of Conduct and to provide services in a responsible manner, with a zero-tolerance approach to any human rights abuses. We also regularly undertake third-party audits, focussing on our most significant and highest risk suppliers, to target our due diligence.
We’re also committed to fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility throughout the Glad Group business, with all our team members, no matter what role, undertaking mandatory Modern Slavery Awareness training modules through our online learning platform, Glad Academy, supplemented with posters at all sites, information on our intranet as well as information at our bi-monthly Townhall updates.
As an active signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, we’re continually learning and evolving our understanding of modern slavery. We also participate in their Business & Human Rights Accelerator Program, their Modern Slavery Community of Practice, and join their annual Australian Dialogue on Business and Human Rights.
These are just some of the ways we ensure we uphold labour rights, provide a safe work environment and operate as a responsible business for our people, stakeholders and customers.
