Bernadette Farr has reached a 15-year milestone with Glad Group Services, building her career along the way. She started in the security industry in 2006 as a Rover, progressed to Control Room Operator, and now serves as Supervisor at Sydney’s Darling Park Precinct.
Over the years, she has become an invaluable part of the site – someone whose knowledge of every corner, system and routine has become essential to how the team operates. Her familiarity with the precinct is unmatched, and her insight is often called upon by both colleagues and contractors alike.
“It’s been a long time,” she laughed, “but I still love coming to work. Every day brings something different. You have your regular routines, but then something unexpected happens, and you must think fast. That’s what keeps it interesting.”
Bernadette has witnessed enormous change during her time – from technology upgrades to changes in management and procedures. “There’s always something new – different people, different systems and you have to be flexible,” she explained. “Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t, but you just adapt and help everyone get up to speed.”
That adaptability, combined with her calm leadership style and strong team connection has earned her deep respect across the site. “I’ve worked with the same core team for years. I know their strengths and weaknesses, so I can place them where they’ll perform best. We have fun, but when it’s time to get serious, we all pull together. Everyone knows their role and we help each other.”
When asked what advice she would offer to newcomers, Bernadette says: “Be patient, stay flexible, and support your team. If you do that, everything else falls into place.”
